Matolara was a Spireloft character who was the premier of Basillera. He resided in Matolara's Palace in Revixot.
Visual Description edit
Matolara was a muscular dragonborn-tiefling with grey fur covering most of his body. He had floppy goat-like ears and horns that curved backwards and his tail was slightly fluffy at the end. His pupils were white against dark sclera, and he wore a red dragon-like masquerade mask. This was due to his love for extravagant parties being associated with his public identity.[1] He wore a dark grey vest with gold accents and matching gloves, as well as a golden sash that had loose ribbon-like fabric attached to it. His long pants were a worn-out beige.
History edit
Pre-Campaign edit
Matolara had a husband and two daughters.
Before Matolara had been elected as Premier of Basillera, he was close to the previous ruler "like a nephew". At the age of 28, he was elected and served one 10-year term before being re-elected.[2]
He eventually started the Utilitarian Soldier Project as a deal with a couple of scientists who worked at Winter's Nails and had long been exiled from Ante for their unethical conduct. This project promised soldiers that spoke back less to their superiors and made them efficient at the cost of other thinking capabilities.
His previous high guard, Harrowshot, quit her job as a soldier after feeling uncomfortable with the way soldiers were leaving and returning.[3]
Campaign edit
Matolara continued to send soldiers to Winter's Nails and eventually offered Arginor Ashven a promotion to Grand General if the counter-siege on Torryen went well. Having expected success, he set up a small promotion party.
In Grave Mistake, he seemed to be suspicious of both Avenir and Haymer, the latter for having bottles of unidentified liquid in his backpack and the former for appearing to share the same visual description of a previous ruler's guard.
After allowing them to leave, he discussed his personal theory to why the ruler of Basillera 200 years ago had died. His theory was because it was due to a heart attack, prompted by years of stress. He then dismissed Group 7422 to talk to Vrik Knaver.
In The High Druid, he appeared to dismiss the letter Vrik handed to him, stating that the sender was incorrect in their assessment of the situation. When Gerardanson Durand later asked him if his relationship with E-MARI was stable, he said yes, and that there was "nothing to worry about".
In ...Fear Like Nothing Else, he was assassinated by E-MARI.
