Basilleran Military
Unlike most other nations in Spireloft, Basillera possessed an extensive military. This force was responsible both for external military operations, such as confrontations with Ante, as well as internal security as a sort of police force.
A significant amount of effort was put into controlling the borders with Woodhollow.
Organisation
The Basilleran military consisted of several branches, including the Premier's Guard that protected Matolara prior to the events of Spireloft.
The Basilleran army was also responsible for its operations at sea, and no separate naval organisation existed. Soldiers trained for land operations could later be deployed at sea.[1]
Most cities and towns had a permanent military presence, usually in the form of a guard post or precinct. Along the border with Woodhollow, units were stationed at intervals to deal with incursions by corrupted wildlife.
Basillera possessed a military academy, where officers and possibly soldiers received training.[2]
For recognition of service, medals were awarded.
Ranks
The exact nature of Basillera's military ranks are unclear. The following ranks are known:
Grand General
The highest rank in Basillera behind the head of government, Grand Generals were appointed by the Premier. In the past, multiple Grand Generals could exist at one time, although by the events of Spireloft only Arginor Ashven held the rank. Harrowshot believed that other Grand Generals could have been disappeared to prepare for Matolara's plot.
General
A General in the Basilleran military commanded a unit of soldiers at sea or on land. Generals had multiple specific uniforms.[3]
Lieutenant
Lieutenants were the lowest rank of officer known. Lieutenants often assisted higher-ranking officers in their operations.[4]

- ↑ Some confusion exists on the exact rank held by a Lieutenant. Gerardanson refers to Lieutenant Salazar as his old commanding officer, despite the fact that Gerardanson was a General and thus outranked Salazar. Presumably, Gerardanson had served under Salazar during his early training, being promoted himself while Salazar had a startlingly stagnant career.
