SMTDDD:Quentin de Groot
Quentin de Groot aka Quentin was a member of the DDD party.
History
[edit source]Quentin was born in Germany, in his mother Petra's home city of Kiel. His father left either just before or shortly after he was born, but Quentin inherited Dutch citizenship from his father as well.
Quentin's mother Petra decided moved to Place: USA for work 12 years before the events of DDD, when Quentin was 16 years old. Quentin enrolled in the local high school.
After graduating, Quentin enrolled in a Catholic theology program at Susan Nawi college. Quentin’s time in college was largely uneventful. He neglected his studies, preferring instead to spend his time playing Dungeons & Dragons, which he was introduced to by his roommate Bryan. Quentin’s first character was a Cleric named Nitneuq. In a heated encounter with a Blue Slaad, the entire party was killed. This sent Quentin into a depressive spiral, and he stopped attending classes altogether.
At the end of his second semester, Quentin was faced with the likely prospect of failing all of his exams and assignments. Instead of giving up, he threw himself into his studies, managing to scrape together enough work in the final weeks to pass his second semester with relatively good grades. However, Quentin found himself completely exhausted and, still mourning the “death” of Nitneuq, he decided to drop out of college.
Quentin returned home to Place, moving back in with his mother. He refused her urgings for him to get a job, instead spending his day hanging out at the local tabletop games store “Howard’s Universe” or arguing with people on Reddit. At Howard’s Universe, Quentin met and befriended Beau, who worked as a personal care assistant at the local nursing home.
Beau also acted as a DM for TTRPGs in his spare time, and invited Quentin to join his ongoing D&D 5e campaign. The other players consisted of Beau’s fiancee Nick Rhodes, their mutual friend Diane, and two middle schoolers named Tyler who were tutored by Beau.
Quentin joined, creating a paladin called “Sir Gertodo the Wise Paladin”. Sir Gertodo was a “wise beyond his years knight from a far-off land of chivalry and swordsmanship, who was travelling the world to fulfil his vow to protect his honour wherever it may be.”
Quentin began to attend sessions religiously. He told his mother that he had “found a job” to explain his absence, but upon further questioning admitted that his “job” consisted of occasionally preparing things for the rest of the party. Unfortunately, his antics pushed two of the players (Nick and Diane) to stop attending sessions as regularly, leaving only the two Tylers and Quentin. Thatcher alleges that Petra, upon learning that the campaign was in jeopardy, quietly paid Beau to continue the campaign for Quentin.
After becoming fed up with Quentin’s lack of drive, Petra used her connections in the ISSC to secure a job for him. Quentin was accepted partially because of his connections, and partially because the soon-to-be-formed Squadron 0 lacked a Persona user.
Member of Squadron 0

Quentin's employment with the ISSC was fraught with troubles (almost exclusively of his own making) from the very beginning. On his second day of employment, Quentin was banned from the food court at the local grocery store for threatening an employee and refusing to vacate the premises. Quentin would later be banned from the entire grocery store, a ban which would also apply to the rest of the team.
Quentin soon became embroiled in Jackie and Barbie's relationship struggles, against the wishes of both, who he "swore" to see get back together. This mostly consisted of Quentin accusing Barbie of "adultery" whenever she interacted with February Valentin, and on multiple occasions resulted in physical violence against Quentin.
Arguably Quentin's finest moment of squadron camaraderie was his offer to host a one shot of Dungeons & Dragons 5th Edition, which was attended by most of the Squadron.
Quentin would develop a close relationship with Ronnie. During the events of ATM's party, Quentin upset Ronnie by attempting to flirt with his father Reginald, part of a plot of Quentin's own design to find a "mate" and gain relationship experience in order to give Jackie and Barbie better advice. Ronnie confronted Quentin violently, knocking the latter through a table of drinks, but the two later made up and confessed their feelings for each other. Ronnie and Quentin shared a kiss in the Expanse shortly before facing the Demiurge, but luckily Quentin would lose his life defeating it.
Relationships

- Vanessa De Groot: Quentin's estranged sister, who works for the ISSC's German branch.
- Papa De Groot: Quentin's paternal grandfather, a dutch farmer. [1]
- Quentin's Great Grandfather: Quentin's maternal great grandfather, who fought for the Germans on DDD-Day 1944.[2]
- Beau: the DM for Quentin's main D&D campaign and Quentin's theoretical best friend.
- Nick Rhodes: Beau's fiancee and a former player in Quentin's campaign. Beau played a kobold rogue, but quit the campaign due to Quentin.
- Diane: a friend of Nick and Beau who likewise participated in the campaign, playing an Aasimar warlock until she, too, quit the campaign.
- Tyler: a middle schooler tutored by Beau who occasionally participated in the campaign, playing a human fighter.
- Other Tyler: another middle schooler tutored by Beau who occasionally participated in the campaign, also playing a human fighter.
Equipment and Abilities
[edit source]Quentin owns a replica M1 Garand rifle, the type used by the US military during World War II.
Quentin's "iconic" outfit consists of a red vest and grey headband emblazoned with the word "Quentin". While he occasionally changes his clothes, his headband remains a constant feature of his outfits, as he believes it grants him special paladin powers.
Alter Egos
[edit source]Quentin possesses several "alter egos", or separate personas. Note that Quetin still maintains that he is not a Persona user. These alter egos often have some connection to the roleplaying games Quentin enjoys, although he makes little distinction between his player characters and his real self.
Quentin's main alter ego is the paladin Sir Gertodo the Wise Paladin, who is also Quentin's PC in his current D&D campaign and a self-insert plot device in the oneshot he ran for Squadron 0. Sir Gertodo is also the alter ego that has merged with Quentin's actual personality the most, to the extent that Quentin rarely (if ever) considers himself to not be a paladin.
A second Quentin alter ego is The Caped Quevenger, a superhero-ninja fusion character. The Caped Quevenger has a particular outfit, unlike Sir Gertodo: a poorly fitting grey jumpsuit and gloves, with a headpiece consisting of a grey ski mask and home-made visor made out of an airline sleeping mask with eyeholes cut into it. Quentin's grey headband and red vest make up the final layers of the outfit. The Caped Quevenger does not actually wear a cape.
Quentin briefly pretended to be the "classically trained" Chef de Groot, successfully cooking a breakfast feast of fried rice for Squadron 0. Unfortunately, his next attempt at impressing the squadron was a savoury pie based loosely on a recipe provided by Sam Samson, which turned out to be inedible.
After Hakua Kuzunoha was fired by Thatcher and Mr. Alonso, Quentin took on the alter ego of Detective Quan, a secret agent in "deep cover" (read: hiding in the ceiling craw space) with the goal of assassinating Mr. Alonso and/or getting Hakua rehired. Detective Quan's outfit consisted of one of Hakua's lab coats and a wide brimmed fedora of unknown provenance.
Trivia
[edit source]- Quentin enjoys playing Dungeons & Dragons 5th Edition, where he plays as a Paladin known as "Sir Gertodo the Wise Paladin". The campaign is run by Quentin's friend and features two other regular players.
- Quentin considered himself to be apolitical up until February 2026, when he briefly endorsed Oliver Thompson for mayor. Afterwards, Quentin considered himself to be "undecided".
- Quentin has a fascination for firearms and, by extension, the United States. His favourite gun is the M1 Garand, which he owns a replica of.
- The previous two facts justify Quentin's dislike for Nazis.
- Quentin's father is unknown.
