Basillera

Basillera was a nation in Spireloft's western continent.

Description

Much of Basillera was mountainous, with the tall Carrion Mountains in the north-west. The rest of its territory consisted mostly of hills.

Basillera had a generally hot, dry climate, due it its proximity to the ancient site of the Flare. Even thousands of years after the Flare, only limited plant life grew throughout much of Basillera. The only regions which significant vegetation, including some trees, were in Basillera's south-west and had once been disputed territory with Woodhaven.

Basillera bordered Lorecia to the north and Sylthe and Woodhollow to the south. Before Woodhollow's expansion, Basillera and Woodhaven had a complex relationship: while significant resources were traded over the border, and Woodhaven was the starting point for the recolonisation of Basillera after the Flare, the two nations continuously skirmished along the border. Even after Woodhollow expanded, Basillera had soldiers stationed along the old border.

Basillera was a democracy, positions such as the mayors of towns chosen by election. The leader of Basillera was the Premier, also chosen by election.

Basillera had an extensive military, which functioned as both a standing army, a police force, and a navy.

Basillera had a non-cohesive coastline on both its western and eastern edges, with most trade being conducted in the east where ships sailed for Elixis, Lorecia, and Ante. Cutler Cove was a major eastern port.
