Cibil Cythalamynn

Cibil Cythalamynn was the High Priest of Lorecia. His disappearance several years before the start of Spireloft was the catalyst for Group 7422's first mission.

Visual Description

Cibil was a tall, lanky blue-skinned elf with short, dark blue greying hair. He had two very large round glasses on his face and had very poor posture. His hands tended to be clammy and he was usually always sweating.

History

Pre-Campaign

Cibil grew up living at the Temple of Caladrin with his uncle, older sister, mother, father, and other unnamed family members. CStatic has not yet solidified whether or not Cibil is transgender, but there is a drawing of him as a child with pigtails and a skirt. CStatic may write another Varianne story taking place when the two siblings were kids at some point, which would then confirm whether or not this is true.

Cibil was 19 when he began training to be The High Priest of Lorecia after Varianne was deemed unfit for the position. His role as the High Priest of Lorecia meant that his guidance, ensuring that Lorecians followed the ideals of Caladrin as (defined by the Cythalamynns), was sought out for matters both private and political. The Cythalamynns specialized in a type magic that allowed The High Priest to read the minds of individuals known as "memory-exploration" magic.

Four years before the events of Spireloft (Campaign), Cibil was appointed to magically investigate a corrupted wolf captured from Woodhollow on the orders of the Lorecian government, who were interested in the strategic benefits of understanding the Woodhollow curse. Upon seeing the wolf, fear and stress overtook Cibil and he fled Erumita and Lorecia entirely, leaving behind a mess in his room.

Cibil eventually journeyed to Nycen in Sylthe, a place he mentioned to his Summoner as he left. Cibil's close relationship to his Summoner meant that the latter was the prime suspect after Cibil's disappearance. At Nycen, he met Aelwe'ni, who took the High Priest in and cared for him. Cibil seemed generally unaware of the passage of time, spending his days observing Woodhollow from across the river.

Campaign

Cibil was eventually discovered by Group 7422, who had been tasked by the Covert Counters to find him. Cibil conducted a ritual to find the source of Kiorend's affliction before departing with the party, bidding a tearful farewell to Aelwe'ni.

Upon returning to Lorecia, Cibil was unwilling to resume his duties as High Priest, with the office passing to Chrissy Melloweather instead of to his niece after a debate held in Erumita. Cibil became something of a personal assistant to E-MARI, spending his time in the council chambers in Erumita. Cibil would encounter the Antidote again after they were teleported to Erumita by Caladrin, resulting in a hostile encounter with his once rescuers.

Post-Campaign

After the events of Spireloft, Cibil retired to Hokiat Mos, where he took on the alias of Cable and continued with his habit of observing the edge of Woodhollow. He was sought out by Tarot and Saena Sagebend, who were looking for an explanation of the voice in Tarot's head. Cibil was able to conduct a ritual similar to the one he conducted on Kiorend, determining that the voice was real, even if he didn't recognise it. Cibil and Tarot parted amicably, but Cibil asked that Tarot not speak a word of his new home to Gerardanson.

The Temple of Caladrin includes most of Cibil's immediate family as well as some people working at the building. He was no longer in contact with most people on this list after the campaign.

Group 7422

Cibil was the object of both Klaes' and Gerardanson's affection during the events of Bees, Trees, Existential Crises and Mission to Manor Mendrow. The two competed for his attention to no success, with Cibil showing no interest in either of them. Klaes eventually admitted that Gerardanson had "won" Cibil and gave up.

Gameplay

Explanation

Cibil was able to create bursts of energy that disorient or push people away. This is a powerful but reckless spell that is not something people who are inexperienced are usually capable of casting on accident. It is a very cheap way of expelling a lot of energy quickly.

Gameplay

• Allowed a chosen ally to expend a recovery on Cibil's turn for free.

Explanation
Cibil was able to facilitate better healing environments for clients, but not apply direct healing. While Cibil held the priest title, he did not hold traditional fantasy cleric abilities because that is not an area of study the Cythalamynns specialize in.

Gameplay

• When the escalation die was even, the most recent ally that received a Moment of Respite added +2 to their attack until the next turn.

Explanation
The effect of the better healing environment usually resulted in better focus for all parties, as a more focused mind resulted in better results when casting any spells. Non-magic users can also be more focused when affected by these environments.

Gameplay

• Cibil gained +3 to disengage checks against multiple enemies.

Explanation
This skill was not inherently magical. This was just Cibil's own sense of preservation.
