This is a subsection of the Manual of Style that provides an overview about how pages about how characters from Shin Megami Tensei: Dark Divine Destiny should be formatted.

General

Making pages

Because Shin Megami Tensei: Dark Divine Destiny takes place within the universe of Megami Tensei, many pages regarding demons and universe-specific concepts do not need to be made. However, if a character behaves differently or has different lore than their SMT-canon counterpart, a page for them should be made. Pages should not be made for specific demons unless they have significant relevance in the campaign.

Page names

Characters may be known by multiple names or pseudonyms and it may be unclear what the name of the page should be. Typically, the page will be named according to a character's first and last name. However, some characters may be known by a name that differs from their full name. In these cases, their pages should be made their preferred name, and any other names should redirect (using #REDIRECT [[page name]] to their main one.

If the character only goes by a first name and does not want to be associated with their last name, then the page's name will just be that. Titles can be used if their legal name is unknown. If a character changed their name during or after the campaign, it is up to the character's creator on which name should be the page name.

Pre-article content

Displayed title

The {{DISPLAYTITLE}} magic word can also allow for a page name to be a character's legal name, but be visually displayed as their preferred name. This can be used in cases where a character identifies with their legal name as much as they do their preferred name, but uses the latter in public and the former in private, like zachplays78.

Quotes

Quotes exist to add stylistic flair to character pages. These quotes use the {{Quote}} template. There are no rules on what the quote should be, as long as it is something that character has said and can be attributed to a session or supplement.

Example:

“ There is some fucked up shit down here. „
— Marcus in Case File 10: Horrors and Deaths!

Maintenance templates

Some character pages may need to undergo maintenance due to being unfinished or because they have a significant amount of incorrect information. If so, apply the necessary templates.

Disambiguation hatnote

Hatnotes are used to direct a reader to more in-depth pages or to the correct ones. If a character's name is extremely similar to another's or other thing in NBITTRPG that has a page, a disambiguation hatnote may be used to redirect users who have found themselves on the wrong page. Use the {{Hatnote}} template to redirect readers.

Example:

This page is about the PC. For the demon, see: Zach Frost.

Opening sentences

The opening sentences of a character page article should inform the reader of:

  1. Other names they may go by
  2. The type of character they are
  3. That they originate from SMTDDD:Earth (SMT)
  4. Who they were played by
  5. Any relevant information about occupation
  6. For NPCs, their relevance to the campaign

The following example is not acceptable because it is unclear to the reader what the content of the page is about:

Ronnie was a member of Squadron Zero.

There is not enough context for a reader to know if they should continue reading. The sentence above may force them to go onto the page about Squadron Zero, which would waste time than if they just knew that it was the name of the party and Ronnie was a PC. Here's how it can be reformatted:

Ronnie (or Ronald) was a PC from SMTDDD:Earth (SMT). He was played by Maple in Shin Megami Tensei: Dark Divine Destiny and was a member of the ISSC's Squadron Zero.

This is a much more complete description as the reader can use this description to determine if they're on the right page or not and be refreshed on who the character is.

The following example is what the opening sentences for an NPC should look like.

Arthur T. Madison (or ATM) was an NPC from SMTDDD:Earth (SMT). He was played by JD in Shin Megami Tensei: Dark Divine Destiny and was the High Priest of the Neo-Messians.

Character infobox

A reader may only read the infobox when looking at a character's page, meaning it should provide all important information about them at a glance. These use the {{DDDPCInfobox}} template.

Remember that pronouns are written in lowercase with all sets listed. If there are multiple elements in a single box in the infobox, please separate each element using <br>.

Article content

Content order

This is the general order of headings for character pages. If a heading is not applicable, it does not have to be included.

NPCs may be missing a Controversies, Relationships, Gameplay Abilities, Gallery, Trivia, and/or References section. This is acceptable for most pages, especially for NPCs that are demons.

Visual Description

The Visual Description should describe their physical features first, then the clothing they usually wear. If what they usually wear is dependent on certain conditions, explain when and why in this section.

History

The History section may have up to three subheaders: Pre-Campaign, Campaign, and Post-Campaign. If only one is applicable, the subheaders are not necessary. Currently, Shin Megami Tensei: Dark Divine Destiny characters are not required to have these as not all of their backstories have been revealed or expanded upon.

Controversies

The Controversies section should list any controversial opinions or actions they have or have taken that have resulted in public in-universe discourse. These can be related to their actual beliefs or be the results of defamation campaigns. Alternatively, you may put whatever you want here.

Relationships

The Relationships section may have a third level header stating a particular group or organization they may be very close with. Under these should be a brief summary of the type of relationship the character has with the organization as a whole and then a bulleted list of associated characters. Each name should be bolded and an {{emdash}} should be used on each bulleted line to separate the name from a brief sentence describing their relationship with the character.

The following example is for zachplays78's Relationships section.

Squadron Zero

  • Jackie — Zach's coworker.
  • Zach Frost — Zach's starter demon and channel mascot.

Gameplay Abilities

The Gameplay Abilities section should contain information about a character's stats and if applicable, their starter demon/persona. It may use the {{ARStatblock}} template to do so.

Appearances

The Appearances section is for any sessions or supplemental media the character was in or mentioned in. If applicable, separate the list of campaign sessions side stories with the Campaign Sessions and Side-Stories subheaders. If a character is only mentioned but not present, put "(mentioned)" to the right of the list item.

The following example is for a character that was mentioned, but did not appear in the first session of Shin Megami Tensei: Dark Divine Destiny.

The Gallery section is for any art relating to the character. It may use the <tabber> and <gallery> tags to show both current and concept art.

Post-article content

References

The References header lists all the citation sources on a page. <references /> should be placed underneath it. A guide to citations on this wiki can be found on the citations page of the Manual of Style.

All pages for members of Squadron Zero should end with {{PCNavbox}} at the bottom.

Categories

All characters should be tagged with:

  • Relevant Campaign: [[Category: Shin Megami Tensei: Dark Divine Destiny]]
  • Character categories: [[Category: Characters]] and [[Category: Shin Megami Tensei: Dark Divine Destiny Characters]]
