This is a page for specific information on magic words and on what pages they are used on the wiki.

Magic Words

Magic words are commands formatted between two double underscores that return variables and can alter page behavior. Not all pages will have magic words, nor will this wiki be using all magic words available on MediaWiki. This page will explain the ones that are used.

Magic words are put on the bottom of the page below everything else unless explicitly stated otherwise. There should be no page elements below magic words. When there are a lot of magic words on one page, please format it so that they are next to each other horizontally, separated by a single space. This prevents excessive amounts of whitespace to build up at the bottom of an article.

__NOTOC__

__NOTOC__ is used to remove the table of contents from a page. This is used on the main page and other pages that may not need one. Do not add this onto regular wiki pages.

__TOC__

__TOC__ is used to force the table of contents to be at a certain point on an article. It can be used to lower the table of contents if it's too high on a page.

__NOEDITSECTION__

__NOEDITSECTION__ is used to remove the links to edit sections on an article. This is used on pages that are not meant for everyone to edit (like the Manual of Style) or just for visual appeal. Do not add this onto regular wiki pages.

__NOINDEX__

__NOINDEX__ removes a page from being found on the search engine. This is used for important pages. Do not add this onto regular wiki pages.

__DISAMBIG__

__DISAMBIG__ marks a page as a disambiguation page.

Variables

There are some magic words that return variables. They're usually formatted as though they were templates.

{{SITENAME}}

{{SITENAME}} is used whenever the wiki's name is mentioned. Please do this, as it prevents any possible future inconvenience of renaming the wiki.

{{DISPLAYTITLE:TITLE}}

{{DISPLAYTITLE:TITLE}} is used to overwrite the title of a page so that it displays the preferred "title". This is used to display a page title without a namespace attached to it or to display the name of a character variant that may share the same name as an existing character or concept while still being listed on the wiki differently. A primary example of this is the page for Caladrin being significantly different from the page on Caladrin, which is a subpage of the same concept. {{DISPLAYTITLE:Caladrin}} is used on the latter so that both display the name "Caladrin" on top without any errors.

{{PAGENAME}}

{{PAGENAME}} is usually used on a page whenever the page's name is mentioned. This can be useful for pages where the page's contents may be moved elsewhere due to an expected renaming, but not recommended on pages for characters or concepts that go by multiple names.
